Sarah Shaulis sought out dance at a very young age at Oxford Center for Dance under the direction of Dina Gazzerro-Kinney, in Southeastern Pennsylvania. She has studied multiple styles such as Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, Tap, and Hip-hop. Her achievements consist of performing as a child actress at several professional theaters including Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA and Hershey Park’s Music Box Theater. In 2012, she began her pre-professional training with the Koresh Youth Ensemble in Philadelphia, working with Roni Koresh and Melissa Rector. After graduating high school, Sarah moved to the city and joined Koresh Dance Company in 2017.
Why do you love to teach?
I love to see a student’s face when they understand the correction or choreography! Seeing student’s faces light up and the confidence build inside of them!
What is your favorite stretch to do?
My favorite stretch is a straddle or heel stretch!
What was your first dance routine?
I was two years old and I was a duck! I remember hating the costume because I thought it was too itchy.
What is your favorite dance accomplishment to date?
After graduating high school, I had the opportunity to be an apprentice for Koresh Dance Company. Within six months, I started touring with the company! I was so excited to start touring with a dance company!
What is your favorite dance movie?
My favorite dance movie is Chicago! I love Bob Fosse and his unique style.
What is your favorite TV show?
One of my favorite TV shows is Survivor! I’ve watched Survivor every since i was little and I love watching the different challenges and puzzles that they have to accomplish.
Do you have a pet, if yes- tell us about it/them?
I have a year old cat named Clover, she is a grey and white tabby that was rescued when she was six weeks old. She’s very talkative, love to cuddle and LOVES to play with hair ties!
What are 3 things you would bring if you were stuck on an island?
If I was stuck on an island I would bring sunscreen, bug spray, and a hammock!
