Mentor
Sage is originally from Rockville Centre, New York. She began taking classes at Oceanside Conservatory of Dance (now Oceanside Dance Center) at age 5, and hasn’t stopped! She grew up competing with her studio, worked as a dance specialist at local summer camps, was a party motivator with a DJ company and served as her high school cheerleading captain and choreographer. If it had anything to do with dance she was in! After high school, Sage went to James Madison University. As a student she was involved with the Madison Dance Team, taught group fitness classes and even interned at a local dance studio. After graduating, Sage moved to Arlington, VA. While teaching dance part-time, she decided to become a classroom teacher and went back to school for her Masters in Elementary Education. After teaching for a few years, she got engaged and followed her now husband Josh to New Jersey. She has been teaching at area studios ever since. When not at the studio, you can find her running, scrap-booking, and being a Mom to her two children Hayden and Miles. She is so excited to bring her experience and passion for dance to ZZ DANCE!
Where did you go to college? What did you major in?
I attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. I studied Kinesiology with a focus in Recreation Management. I then went to Marymount University in Arlington, VA and earned a Masters Degree in Education.
What is your favorite dance memory?
As a freshman in high school, I was selected to be a dance coordinator for a battle of the classes event, which is now an over 100 year tradition. I choreographed and taught a routine to about 40 girls (yes 40!) many of whom were upperclassmen. I was honored and nervous since I had never even participated in the event before. I remember finally getting to perform our dance for the opposing team 9 weeks later. The routine was a big hit! I continued to choreograph every year and served as a team captain as a senior. I now get to go to the event as a judge and look forward to seeing all the creative dances the girls come up with.
Why are you excited to be a mentor at ZZ DANCE?
I am passionate about teaching and love doing it through dance. I’m excited to be part of a studio that encourages children to grow not only as dancers but as confident and kind individuals.
What is your favorite TV show?
Anything on Bravo! I also love mini-series dramas like Mare of Easttown and The Undoing. Most of the time, I’m watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Trolls with my kids.
